Recredentialing Frequently Asked Questions

Effective in the second quarter 2015, Cigna will be rolling out a new recredentialing process to our entire Dental Network.

Highlights of the process include:
  • Electronic recredentialing application for dentists to maintain information for re–attestation
  • Elimination of paper copies for required credentials

Under this process, all health care professionals (HCPs) who are due for recredentialing will receive a notification via fax or mail advising them to complete the electronic recredentialing application. Once the application is received, Cigna Dental will complete the verification process and submit it to the Credentialing Committee for review/approval as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why are these improvements taking place?
  2. These improvements support Cigna Dental's value proposition and results, as well as industry trends:
    • Easy and cost effective access to care (better savings)
    • Whole–person integrated health focus (better health)
  3. Why is the recredentialing process changing?
  4. This new process will create a more comprehensive approach to recredentialing our Dental network. We will obtain more up–to–date information, perform a more robust verification process, and upgrade the tools with which the process is administered.

  5. What will happen if I do not complete my recredentialing application?
  6. There are a series of scheduled outreaches and follow–ups if an HCP does not complete their recredentialing application based on our initial request. If an HCP still doesn't submit their recredentialing application after these outreaches, then steps will be taken to end network participation.

  7. Can I designate others in the office to complete the online recredentialing application?
  8. Yes, HCPs can designate others in the office to complete the online recredentialing application, just as they can do for their initial credentialing application. However, with both applications, the HCP is required to complete the attestation portion of the application. Only the HCP can e–sign and submit applications.

  9. I am part of a Dental Service Organization (DSO), am I required to complete the recredentialing application?
  10. Yes, all HCPs are required to complete the recredentialing application with the exception of those who are part of a delegated credentialing process. If an HCP is contracted with a delegated group and a non–delegated DSO or independent office and fail to respond to the recredentialing process, their non–delegated office will be terminated.

  11. Are other electronic systems available for recredentialing?
  12. We ask that all health care professionals use Cigna's new system for recredentialing. However, you will also have the option of completing your application through CAQH ProViewTM. No matter which method you choose, we want your experience with the recredentialing process to be fast, efficient and stress–free.

  13. Will paper applications be allowed?
  14. Our goal is for all HCPs to submit recredentialing applications electronically. Therefore, we will strongly encourage you to complete these processes online. If you need help completing your application, please call the National Contracting Unit at 800.280.9622.

  15. Where can I go to ask questions about the new program?
  16. Questions about the recredentialing process or using the online application can be directed to our email box at Dental.Recredentialing@Cigna.com or to the National Contracting Unit at 800.280.9622.
