Interpretation Services for Limited English Speaking Patients/

Effective January 1, 2009 members who reside in the state of California have the right to an interpreter when receiving treatment and services. Cigna Behavioral Health is offering free telephonic interpretation through our language service vendor. To engage an interpreter once the member is ready to receive services, please call 1-800-806-2059. You will need the member's Cigna Behavioral Health ID number, date of birth and your Tax ID number to confirm eligibility and access interpretation services. It is not necessary to arrange for these services in advance.

If a member prefers to use a family member or friend to provide interpretation services after s/he has been told that a trained interpreter is available free of charge, the member's refusal to use the trained interpreter shall be documented in the member's medical record, when in a provider setting, or the member"s administrative file (call tracking record) in the Member Services setting.

Interpretation Services for Limited English Speaking Patients

If a member requests an interpreter while receiving care in the hospital setting, the interpreter arrangements shall be made by the party (Cigna Behavioral Health or Hospital) which receives the member’s request.

If a member prefers to use a family member or friend to provide interpretation services after s/he has been told that a trained interpreter is available free of charge, the member’s refusal to use the trained interpreter shall be documented in the member’s medical record.
