What you need to know
Chlamydia screening measure looks for one chlamydia test per year for women 16-24 years of age identified as sexually active. "Sexually active" women are identified by two types of claims data:
- Pharmacy data - those patients who were dispensed prescription contraceptives.
- Encounter data - may include patients who had at least one related encounter with a physician or clinic (may include public health clinics).
- HEDIS relies on diagnoses and procedure codes, as well as patient medical records, to measure performance.
Tips for improving your scores
- Educate your patients on the facts about chlamydia.
- Perform yearly chlamydia screening each year on female patients age 16-24 who are sexually active.
- Take a confidential sexual history with adolescent patients.
