Employee Assistance Program Referral Opportunities

As a Cigna Behavioral Health participating health care professional, you are probably aware of our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) models, including the assessment and referral model (1-3 clinical visits) and short term counseling (STC) model (1-4 or more clinical visits). Did you know Cigna's EAP program offers a variety of other clinically-related services? Below is a list of these service offerings, along with Cigna's expectations of you, should you choose to provide these services to your patients who are Cigna Behavioral program participants:

Critical Incident Response (CIR)

  • Received formal training in Critical Incident Response
  • Delivered a minimum of four CIR services in the past two years
  • Willing to make changes in schedule to accommodate CIR requests within 2-12 hours

Wellness Seminars

  • Be familiar with Cigna's clinical and non-clinical EAP services
  • Have presented a minimum of four Employee Wellness Seminars in the past two years
  • Willing to make changes in schedule to accommodate requests within three-four weeks
  • Ability to be engaging and have the technical skills to make presentations using PowerPoint

Management Referrals

  • Value the concept that the Management Referral is a workplace tool designed to help employees to restore job performance
  • Understand the Management Referral perspective that the employee and employer are both your clients
  • Qualified to perform a general substance abuse screening as part of an overall assessment
  • Report compliance within 24 hours of each appointment to Cigna's Employee Assistance Consultant (EAC)
  • Partner with the Cigna EAC to address workplace concerns and discuss your assessment findings and recommendations
  • Agree not to communicate with the employer requesting in the referral; complete paperwork related to fitness for duty, return to work and/or disability

Supervisory Trainings

  • Familiar with the management referral process, including the role of the manager, the EAC, and the health care professional
  • Have delivered a minimum of four Supervisory Training sessions in the last two years

Substance Abuse Evaluations (SAP & SAE)

  • Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) as defined by the Department of Transportation and have fulfilled the training and exam requirements to practice using the title of SAP
  • Substance Abuse Evaluations (SAE) as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and have fulfilled the training and exam requirements to practice using the title of SAE
