National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)1 Accreditations

Cigna has been committed to obtaining third-party external accreditation of its quality program through the NCQA accreditation review process since 1993. NCQA’s Accreditation Programs are one of the industries “Gold Standard” mechanisms for assuring and improving quality care and patient experience. The NCQA surveys are rigorous, comprehensive and transparent. These programs reflect a commitment to quality that yields tangible, bottom-line value.

Cigna has received the following Accreditations/Certifications from NCQA:

  3. Wellness and Health Promotion Accreditation
  4. Physician Quality Certification

URAC

URAC is known as an industry leader in the accreditation of health care organizations. URAC offers a variety of accreditation and certification programs that help to set the highest standards in quality and safety. Their evidence-based measures are developed in collaboration with a wide array of stakeholders including health plans, providers and associations.

The URAC accreditation symbol is synonymous with a standard of excellence and illustrates Cigna’s commitment to quality and accountability. Cigna, through it’s subsidiary, Cigna Health Management, Inc, holds the following accreditations from URAC:

  1. Health Utilization Management
  2. Case Management
  3. Pharmacy Benefit Management

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO)

Participating hospitals are accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), or must undergo onsite reviews by the state, Medicare or Cigna, based on NCQA standards.
